D-Day for Firefox 3

Published by Alex G under Events

Download Day 2008Today, or in the case of Australia, tomorrow is D-Day for Firefox 3, it’s the day that Firefox 3 will be available officially for download by the masses. To commemorate the release the marketing team at Mozilla have devised a plan to get themselves into the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest number of downloads in a 24 hour period with Firefox Download Day.

All you have to do is go to the Spread Firefox website and pledge your commitment to download Firefox 3 during the 24 hour period to take part. Then, all that is required is that you actually download the software during that time-frame and you’ll be a part of (hopefully) a Guinness World Record.

Some people have issues with the fact that Mozilla haven’t taken into account other timezones with their plan but I feel this is more a case of logistics than ignoring everybody outside the Americas due to the record attempt, it needs to be a single 24-hour period and considering the US is their biggest market it would unwise to exclude them for the benefit of other smaller markets.

For those of you aren’t sure when 10am San Francisco time is in Australia, here are the start times:

  • West: 1am (Wednesday 18th)
  • Central: 2:30am (Wednesday 18th)
  • East: 3am (Wednesday 18th)

You can also follow it all on Twitter.

A Bit of Fun: Wordle Meme

Published by Alex G under Random

I came across Wordle through a post on Bloggy Hell by Myles Eftos and thought it looked like a bit of fun. The image below is a composite of all the words used in the summaries of the posts on this website. Judging by the big words I post a lot about the web industry!

Why not try it yourself on your blog? Just go to wordle.net and paste the content of your blog into the box. A few seconds later you’ll have a lovely visual representation of your blog’s content. Enjoy!
